Minnie
American Water Spaniel by breed;
Little brown dog with an attitude; by trade.
Two coats, both brown;
Oe short and fine;
The other curly, loose, and warm;
You wear yours like an old chenille robe.
As a pup you were a terror;
Trimming everything within reach;
With an impressive set of very sharp teeth;
Your only saving grace;
Was the look on a sleepy face.
Four years as a pup;
Thinking you'd never grow up;
No longer chewing my thumb;
What a sweet little pal you've become.
Around town running amok;
You riding shotgun in the old truck;
Wen you smile at them from the front seat;
Your drive-in friends are quick with a treat.
Your breed was aptly named;
At home you run the beach;
A game of chase with gulls and ducks;
A quick roll on a dead fish;
Then in for a short swim.
It's a joy to watch you run and play;
It's a comfort because you mind so well;
But, consider it first before you tell;
It's worth it all when you jump in my lap;
And we both settle in for a short little nap.
