Drift Fishing
Drift Fishing, a relative term;
More than hook, current, and worm;
Special equipment yes, I affirm;
And boat rides that make you squirm.
It's all about;
The pursuit of trout;
In a dory with pointed snout;
9' 6" oars, you'd better be stout.
McKenzie River Drift Boat;
Most unusual afloat;
Flat-bottomed, no keel of note;
High sides and stable, gets my vote.
Broad in the beam,
Perfect for a fast stream.
A fisher's dream,
Over the riffle into the seam.
Un-masted sloop tacking to and fro;
Back and forth across the flow;
Matched rods, working as I row;
The bend ahead, I don't know?
Fast, deep, water to port;
What wonderful sport;
Strike! Left rod I snort;
Rest not till he's again' the thwart.
